IO-Link 1-Port USB-C Master

TEConcept’s IO-Link 1-Port USB-C Master is the compact development tool for engineers who want to parameterize, analyze, and test IO-Link sensors and IO-Link actuators directly from a PC. Through a single USB-C connection, the computer supplies the master with power while simultaneously handling communication — without an external power supply, without a PLC. The included Windows GUI reads IODD files, displays process data in real time, and provides full parameter read and write access. This makes the 1-Port USB-C Master the ideal companion throughout the entire IO-Link development phase: from the initial connection test to device acceptance.

IO-Link 1-Port USB-C Master applications

Sensor and Actuator Development
During the development of an IO-Link device, the USB-C Master offers the fastest way to observe device behavior directly on the PC. Parameter values can be read and written live, and process data is visualized in real time — without the detour via a PLC or control system.

Commissioning and Technical Support
Whether in the field or in the lab, the 1-Port USB-C Master fits easily in a laptop bag. For service technicians, it’s an indispensable tool for reading out IO-Link devices on-site, checking parameters, or locating faults.

Device Qualification and Preliminary Testing
Before deploying certified test systems, the USB-C Master is well suited for an initial proof of function: communication setup, IODD compliance, and parameter access can be quickly and easily verified

IO-Link USB-C Master, IO-Link Master Module or IO-Link Master Stack?

All three solutions offer IO-Link master functionality — but they differ fundamentally in their use case.

The USB-C Master is designed for PC-based use in development and service: it operates directly via USB-C, requires no external power supply, and comes with a full Windows GUI. The IO-Link Master Module, on the other hand, is a compact PCB unit for direct integration into your own hardware — it communicates with the host system via SPI or UART and is designed for OEM use in series production. The IO-Link Master Stack goes a step further: it isn’t hardware, but a licensable software component that integrates IO-Link master functionality directly into your own host platform — for example, a gateway, a PLC, or an embedded system. This offers maximum flexibility in hardware choice, but requires corresponding development resources for integration.

For development, testing, and service in the lab or field, the USB-C Master is the right choice. Once a product moves into series production, either the Master Module as a ready-made hardware component or the Master Stack as a software integration is suitable, depending on the approach.

TEConcept IO-Link 1-Port Master Module

1-Port Master Module

On a minimal footprint of just 43 mm x 33 mm, this module offers an integrated transceiver as well as a full-featured V1.1.4 Master Stack. Communication with your hardware is straightforward via simple telegrams using SPI or UART interfaces. An integrated USB port for the TEConcept Control Tool is also available for easy offline configuration.

TEConcept IO-Link 4-Port-Master Module

4-Port Master Module

For more comprehensive requirements, this module provides four fully tested, IO-Link-compliant ports on 59 mm x 39 mm. It enables direct access to process data and diagnostic information from up to four devices simultaneously. Optionally, we offer custom adaptations of the application software for this module to implement cost-effective stand-alone systems in the form of a mini-PLC.

Master Stack

A licensable firmware component that integrates IO-Link master functionality as a ready-made protocol layer into your own automation systems, gateways, or field devices. It runs on a wide selection of microcontrollers and IO-Link ASICs from leading semiconductor manufacturers and supports all IO-Link services — including ISDUs, events, data storage, and Interleaved Mode.

FAQ on 1-Port USB-C Master

The master is fully compliant with the current IO-Link specification and supports all COM speeds (COM1, COM2, COM3) as well as the data storage function.

Included is a Windows-based GUI featuring an IODD interpreter, process data and event visualization, parameter read/write access, and a socket interface for process data. Communication between the GUI and the master takes place via TCP/IP through an STCS server. Software updates are available to users free of charge.
