IO-Link 1.1.4 – New Rules, New Pitfalls
It will be mandatory from October 2025: IO-Link Specification Version 1.1.4.
What at first glance appears to be a minor version jump has far-reaching implications in practice, particularly for the validation and certification of devices.
The new version introduced snippet-based testing. While this may sound unspectacular, it is currently causing many manufacturers a headache.
What's New?
- Introduction of a standardized snippet structure for profiles, events, parameters, and process data.
- Validation is now performed based on XML-based rule sets
- The new IODD Checker V1.1.13 R1 strictly checks against these requirements.
- Wireless devices are not yet fully supported.
- Revised snippet versions are only expected with V1.1.5 – however, compliance with 1.1.4 is already mandatory today.
Why is this important?
Because even technically sound devices can currently fail certification.
Not due to faulty implementation, but due to unclear snippet definitions or missing validation options.
A failure in the test lab means:
- Delays in the project schedule
- Additional testing costs
- and in the worst case, a market launch delayed by weeks.
Our Recommendation
Before submitting your device for official IO-Link certification, have your IODD and snippet structure checked.
Our team knows the current pitfalls and helps ensure that your device passes the tests on the first attempt.
Because IO-Link compatibility is not a coincidence; it is the result of experience, knowledge, and an eye for detail.
