FAQ on our IO-Link diagnostic & test tools
What is the difference between IO-Link diagnostic tools and IO-Link test tools?
Diagnostic tools such as the IO-Link Diagnosis Tool or the IO-Link Spy are used during development and in field operation to analyze communication behavior, process data, and device parameters in real time. Test tools such as the Device Tester or Physical Layer Tester, on the other hand, verify the formal standard compliance of an IO-Link device according to the IO-Link Test Specification – they are a prerequisite for certification.
Which tests are required for the IO-Link certification of my sensor or actuator?
The IO-Link Community requires three test categories for IO-Link devices: the protocol test (data link and application layer), the physical layer test (signal level, bit timing, current consumption), and the EMC test. As an accredited IO-Link Competence and Test Center, TEConcept offers all three tests – individually or as a package.
What is an IO-Link Test Center, and why is accreditation important?
An IO-Link Test Center is a testing body recognized by the IO-Link Community that uses officially approved test systems and procedures. Accreditation ensures that test results are internationally recognized and that the certification process runs smoothly. TEConcept is an accredited IO-Link Competence and Test Center.
Can I purchase the test systems and use them myself, or do I need to have TEConcept perform the tests?
Our test systems are available as standalone products – however, for official IO-Link certification, they may only be used by members of the IO-Link Community. If formal certification is being pursued and you are not a member of the IO-Link Community, the tests must be carried out by an officially accredited IO-Link test center. As an accredited IO-Link Competence and Test Center, TEConcept is happy to carry out these certification tests for you.
At what point in development should I start testing?
The earlier, the better. Diagnostic tools can already be used in early development phases to identify communication issues early on. Formal conformance tests with the Device Tester or Physical Layer Tester are recommended at the latest during the validation phase, to avoid costly revisions shortly before market launch.
