IO-Link Safety Certified Designer Training 2026: TEConcept is on board!

The IO-Link Community invites participants to Karlsruhe from December 1 to 3, 2026, for the Training for “IO-Link Safety Certified Designer” 2026 — a course aimed at developers, engineers, and certification experts who want to implement safe IO-Link applications. As an accredited IO-Link Competence Center with its own portfolio of IO-Link Safety solutions, TEConcept is also taking part and would like to summarize all the relevant information for the community here.

What is the training about, and who is the target audience?

The IO-Link Safety Certified Designer Training provides expert knowledge for developing standard-compliant, functionally safe IO-Link applications. Participants learn the fundamental concepts of IO-Link Safety, from the black channel principle through the safety communication layer to integration into existing automation systems.

Upon successful completion, participants receive an official certification from the IO-Link Community, which is recognized as proof of qualification for safety projects.

The training is aimed at:

  • Developers of IO-Link Safety devices and master systems
  • Engineers in automation technology with a safety focus
  • Certification experts and auditors
  • Product managers and technical decision-makers in the safety field

Basic knowledge of IO-Link is assumed.

FAQ on the IO-Link Safety Certified Designer Training 2026

The IO-Link Safety Certified Designer Training is a three-day official course by the IO-Link Community, conducted jointly with TÜV SÜD. The involvement of TÜV SÜD underscores the binding nature of the certification and ensures that the training content complies with recognized functional safety standards.

On the first day, the fundamentals of IO-Link Safety are taught, from the black channel principle through the safety communication layer to relevant standards such as IEC 61508 and ISO 13849. The second day focuses on the concrete architecture and design of IO-Link Safety master and device systems, including hardware and software requirements as well as diagnostics and error handling. The third day centers on test procedures, conformance testing, and the final certification exam conducted by TÜV SÜD.

“After successful completion, participants receive the official certification as an ‘IO-Link Safety Certified Designer,’ a recognized qualification for anyone who wants to design, implement, or approve functionally safe IO-Link applications.

The certification exam takes the form of three partial exams — each at the end of a training day. Each test covers the content of that respective day and is administered by TÜV SÜD. Only those who pass all three tests receive the official TÜV certificate.

The training takes place from December 1 to 3, 2026, in Karlsruhe.

The training is conducted in English.

Via online registration on the IO-Link Community website (io-link.com). Registration is mandatory. The participation fee is €770.

TEConcept is currently working on finalizing its own Safety portfolio — specifically on a Functional Safety Master Stack as well as a Functional Safety Device Stack. In this context, the training is especially valuable to us from two perspectives: On the one hand, we want to further expand and deepen our knowledge in the certification of functionally safe IO-Link applications. On the other hand, we’re looking forward to exchanging ideas with other participants, to learn about their safety developments and discuss implementation approaches together.
