Physical Layer Tester

TEConcept has developed a Physical Layer Tester “PLT” for devices to perform physical layer tests in accordance with the IO-Link test specification. The tester is powered by an external 48V power supply, controlled via a USB port, and features a standard M12 connector for connecting the devices under test. A PC software application queries the IODD of the device under test and automatically adapts most parameters of the test procedure to the capabilities of the device under test. The test cases are defined by XML files to which the user has access.

Physical Layer Tester

Functional Description

The PLT is based on a high-speed multi-channel A/D converter that measures voltages and currents on both the C/Q and L+ lines. For each test case, specific snapshots of signals are captured and stored. To generate these signals, the PLT contains all necessary elements, such as an IO-Link Master, adjustable voltage and current sources, line simulations, etc.

These snapshots are visualized by the PC application in an oscilloscope-like view. They must be analyzed semi-automatically by taking measurements through the movement of graphical cursors linked to voltage, current, and time values. The measured data is entered/copied into predefined fields and used for an automatically generated test report.
