IO-Link Spy – Sporadic IO-Link errors are particularly critical!
Anyone working with IO-Link in real machines knows this situation:
The system is generally stable, but from time to time a diagnostic message appears. Communication interrupted. Timeout. Device not responding. A reset helps – for a while. Then the problem recurs days later.
In many cases, this is not a wiring problem, but a timing issue between the master and the device. And these are precisely the problems that are most difficult to locate. They occur rarely, cannot be forced, and often disappear as soon as you start measuring.
Classic inline analyzers are only of limited help here. You disconnect the cable, plug in the tool, restart the machine – and the original situation has already vanished. Usually, the problem cannot be reproduced in the laboratory.
What you really need in these cases is a way to capture communication while the machine continues to run.
This is exactly where the IO-Link Spy comes into play.
It is simply clamped onto the existing IO-Link cable and taps the signal passively. No interruption, no influence on timing, no impact on machine operation. The captured data is transferred to a PC and can be analyzed in detail – including timing, requests, responses, and protocol behavior.
This allows for the detection of rare effects that only occur during real operation: delayed responses, unexpected sequences, or protocol irregularities that only happen occasionally. And most importantly, you see them when they actually occur.
For commissioning, service, and test environments, this makes a real difference. The machine keeps running while the cause is analyzed. A vague diagnostic message becomes a clear, data-based explanation.
